Education Lead Provider

As an Education Lead Provider we are responsible for the development of postgraduate medical and dental education across the partnership.

Our mission is to deliver health improvement and wealth creation for the UK through excellence in discovery, innovation and education. The education of our health professionals is fundamental to achieving the scale and pace of change needed to address the specific healthcare challenges we are facing today in our local population. We are responsible for the management and development of education for all core medical and dental trainees and a range of medical, surgical and psychological specialties across north central and north east London, with some of our specialty programmes provided pan-London.

Our approach to postgraduate medical and dental education supports our values of being patient led, population focused, developed in partnership and delivered at pace. Postgraduate medical and dental education at UCLPartners fully integrates the complementary strategic objectives and requirements of our designated roles as an Academic Health Science Centre (AHSC), Academic Health Science Network (AHSN), NIHR Local Clinical Research Network and NIHR Collaboration for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care (CLAHRC). This ensures the development of the types of doctors our partnership will need in the future, capable of transforming healthcare by implementing proven innovation in the NHS at scale and pace. Education is also addressed in a wider context through our education cross-cutting theme [link].

Education Lead Providers are responsible for the quality management of all specialty training programmes. Since we were designated as an Education Lead Provider in 2011, we have been working with our member NHS trusts to continue to drive up the quality of all postgraduate training posts across the partnership. Our aim is to deliver world-class care to patients through the skills and expertise of our postgraduate doctors and dentists, by instilling the values and behaviours required for the best patient experience and outcomes. We are doing this by working with Health Education North Central and East London, along with senior clinical faculty, training education providers, and educational and clinical supervisors in our member organisations to ensure a rigorous programme of education for our health professionals.
